However, supply–demand dynamics, the emergence of gold as an asset class in its own right, the explosive growth of gold ETFs, and the diminishing status of the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency — together with investment metrics such as returns and inter-asset correlations — all make a compelling case for holding gold over the long term as part of a well-diversified portfolio
